An Orange County jury has found Emmanuel Wallace guilty on several counts, including first-degree murder, for his role in the home invasion shooting that killed 19-year-old Alex Zaldivar and injured two others.

Wallace was also found guilty on two counts of attempted murder and burglary with a firearm.

Wallace faces life in prison.

Prosecutors said Wallace, Bessman Okafor and Donnell Godfrey went to Zaldivar's Ocoee home in September 2012 to kill him and his roommates. Their motive was to eliminate them as witnesses in Okafor's home invasion trial, which was scheduled for the same week.

Prosecutors used witnesses to place Wallace at the scene and phone records to show he was in constant contact with the other two suspects.

They said Wallace drove the car with Okafor and carried an assault rifle into the home.

However, Wallace's attorney has tried to prove his client was not part of the crime.

Wallace took the stand for approximately 90 minutes Tuesday, claiming he was babysitting for his family on the night of the shooting.

In closing arguments Wednesday morning, the state attacked Wallace's credibility.

"The truth, ladies and gentlemen, is much like that Florida weed that just will not stop popping up," Assistant State Attorney Ryan Williams said. "When you try to skirt the truth, it eventually always comes up, and that's what happened when Mr. Wallace testified. He got caught."

Godfrey was sentenced to life in prison in November. Okafor stood trial in 2013 for the earlier home invasion and received five concurrent life sentences. He is scheduled to stand trial later this year for Zaldivar's death, and could face the death penalty if convicted.

The jury deliberated for about three hours before delivering the guilty verdict.

A sentencing hearing has been set for 11 a.m. Wednesday, March 18.
