An 8-month-old girl is safe after a standoff with a barricaded man ends peacefully in Brevard County.

It started around midnight when a woman called police, saying she escaped after she was beaten up inside a mobile home on Anchorage Lane, off Aurora Road.

Although the woman was able to escape, the infant remained inside with her barricaded boyfriend, who is not the child's father.

That man has been identified as Dustin Brooke, 30. Officials say there were also two other adults inside at the time.

When law enforcement arrived, deputies said Brooke threatened to harm them and refused to leave his home.

The SWAT team was called to the scene, along with a hostage negotiator.

"About 2 o'clock, I walked down there to get a pack of cigarettes," said David Warden, a witness. "There were some cars down there, cop cars. I walked down there. They had a trailer surrounded and they were beating on the door for about two hours."

The standoff ended just before 6:30 a.m. and Brooke was taken into custody.

The Sheriff's Office said the female victim sustained bruises and abrasions, but was not taken to the hospital.

"Huge concern for her," said Deputy Maria Fernez. "You know, she's worried about her child and I'm sure that she is relieved that the child is safe and, you know, being reunited with her."

Several surrounding homes were evacuated during the standoff.

Aurora Road was closed between Croton Road and Begonia Street, but has since reopened.
